7th & 8th Month Milestone Update

Now that Makenna is almost 9-months old I guess I should update you on the milestones that she has accomplished. Well she started army crawling on June 24th, rocking on her hands and knees by June 29th, got to a sitting position on her own and said "Mama" by July 9th, started crawling July 15th, began pulling herself up onto furniture July 21st, and learned how to climb up the stairs on August 13th. So if any of you were wondering why I am slacking on blogging, this would be the reason. She keeps me constantly on my toes and busy. I love that she is mobile now!!

L.A. Zoo Fun

On July 23rd we went to the Los Angeles Zoo. We had a great time and knew that Makenna would love to people watch. We wanted to see if she would be more interested in the animals now that she was three months older than when we had gone to the Living Desert to see the animals. Well she liked them a little more this time,

but mostly just liked to people watch (You would think this was in response to an animal but no, she liked the people...Hehe),

and catch a snooze,

but the thing she was most excited about was the waterfall!! She could not get enough of it. I don’t know if it was the sound, or the movement, or just that she thought that it was the biggest bath tub she had ever seen. But whatever she thought, she loved it.

Here Kitty, Kitty, Kitty!!

I feel so bad for all of the kitties around us right now. Makenna is fascinated with them but they are not so fond of her. Our cat simply runs away from her if she even gets within 3 feet of him because he knows if he sticks around that he will be missing some fur. Here are a few pictures of her with the kitties.

Makenna must have snuck up on our kitty or he was too fascinated with the birds to get up because he usually doesn’t let her get this close.

Makenna with Toby’s parent’s cat. She jumped up twice into Makenna’s lap. Makenna didn’t know what to do with a cat that would get this close to her.

This is one of my sister's cats. He tolerated her for a while.

Well this blog posting ended up being more of an apology to the poor kitties in our life. Sorry:-(

July 4th

We had my sisters, Shawn, and Daniel over to our house for the Fourth of July. We had a great time playing Wii golf, bowling, tennis, and boxing. We didn't want to go to the firework presentation because we weren't sure how Makenna would do with such loud noises and being way past her bedtime. So, we decided to get out the sparklers that we had bought probably about two or three years ago. We weren't expecting them to do much but they lit and then would go out shortly after lighting.

Alycia's would light and then act like it was out and all of a sudden it would spark back up again.

We were all laughing so hard.

Baby Proofing Here We Come

So Makenna is now scooting around the house, not crawling, but kinda slithering with her arms and legs pushing and pulling. She reminds me of a little polliwog. It is nice that she can move a little on her own because she can get to things that she wants more easily and therefore is content on the floor for longer. It does however mean that I need to keep a better watch on her and we need to start baby proofing the house. We had a basket of magazines on the floor in the living room.

It is a bit poetic as the magazine that she ripped up is entitled "Parents". Hmm...Maybe if I had gotten around to reading that issue the magazine wouldn't have met its demise.

Baby Dedication

On Father's Day weekend Makenna got dedicated. You always see the kids that are screaming as they are up on stage and we were so worried that Makenna would be that child. Luckily she was great! She was calm and smiley and did a wonderful job. Scott dedicated Makenna at CBC. It was so neat because he was there with my family in the waiting room the long night before Makenna was born and was amongst the first of the family members to hold her. He made her dedication so personal and wonderful.

Grandma Quilt

My mom made a quilt for Makenna a little before her 6-month birthday. I am posting this a little late as she is almost 7-months old, but better late than never. My sisters and I all had a "Grandma Quilt" when we were growing up that we took with us everywhere and still have today. My Grandma Etzen, my dad's mom, had made the quilts for each of us and my mom wanted Makenna to have a special quilt that she could use also. Thank you mom for the beautiful quilt!!
