Bowling 101

Back in February we had planned to take Makenna bowling and had been super excited until we got there and they said they were all booked up.  We were very disappointed and decided to go back another day, and earlier in the day when it wasn't so crowded.  So on a Saturday at the end of March we decided to go back and try our luck again; and this time it was a success.  Toby and I put on the silly bowling shoes and picked up a ball for ourselves.  Makenna was given the smallest ball that they had and was allowed to wear her own shoes because the rental shoes were too big.  Now Toby and I have not been bowling in FOREVER, so apparently they have changed things since we had gone last.  We were under the impression that the perk of bringing a kid bowling with you was so you could use the bumpers and nobody looked at you strangely.  Well, I am sorry to report that they have fancy bumpers now that come out only when it is time for the child to bowl...we were so sad...hehe.  So, with mommy and daddy a bit disappointed, we entered our names into the game and off we went.  Even though it was the smallest ball that they had, Makenna still had trouble lifting that ball to place it on the ramp that the bowling alley supplied for her.

And here are our scores after the first few frames.  Yes, yes, our 3 year old is totally out bowling us...hehe.

We tried to teach her the etiquette of bowling where she needed to stay off of the wood until it was her turn to bowl.  She started to remember this rule by the end of our bowling time when after Toby would help her put the ball up on the ramp she would wait to bowl until we were safely off on the tile and if we didn't she would make sure to remind us.

We had paid to play two games and by the second one Makenna was getting a little bored with the whole thing so she graciously let Kyler take a few turns for her.  He used his feet and kicked the ball off the ramp.  Then he would be shocked that it was gone and smile as it went down the lane.

So on the first game Makenna beat both Toby and I.  And on the second game: Toby won, Makenna came in second, and mommy was consistently last both times:-)  If it wasn't for Makenna focusing more on her singing and dancing than her bowling on the second game, she probably would have gotten first place both times...hehe:-)

We had fun!  Next time I think we will just bowl one game; that seems to be the attention span of our three year old.  And I think I will let Makenna give me some pointers next time:-)
