Easter 2012

Easter Egg Dying
‘Twas the night before Easter and we were dying eggs. This was our first experience doing this with Makenna. I had seen a brilliant idea online for toddlers dying eggs to help keep the eggs unbroken and the kids more cleanly. I am all for that:-) We put the egg inside of a whisk, which made it super easy for her to hold and dunk into the dye. It worked really well as long as we held onto cup so it didn’t tip over. Makenna had so much fun making all colors of eggs.

She especially liked the last one that we did where we wrote her name on it. She was surprised when she started to see letters appear on the egg when it was dunked into the dye. I think I will do a whole dozen next time since she had so much fun.
Finished Result!  Not one broken egg:-)

Easter Morning
Makenna woke up early enough on Easter morning to have her egg hunt before going to church. She was excited to see all of the eggs and immediately knew what to do…collect them as fast as she could.

I think the Easter Bunny might have to hide them a little harder next time:-) She was thrilled to find out that they had candy in them this year, as opposed to the sugary cereals of last year. She stopped part-way through her egg collecting to look at her Easter basket. She got a doctor’s set that she was thrilled about and had to have opened before continuing on to anything else.

Then she examined her eggs after a successful egg hunt.

Easter Church Service
Our church service began an hour and a half earlier than our usual service, but at least it wasn’t a sunrise service. Jason, Beth, and Wyatt were able to come join us there. It was such a beautiful day outside and our service was held out in the courtyard. After church we had our annual brunch. There was so much yummy food and fun times with everyone. Aside from the great food, there was a bounce house for the kids to jump in, an egg hunt, and a silly photo booth.
(I know it is hard to tell but yes, that is really us under those disguises)
Before the egg hunt began, Wyatt shared his Easter basket grass with Makenna.

When it was time to “look” for eggs, Makenna began by being very selective with them and only picking up the yellow ones.

Then she got a little more into the groove and started picking up the ones in front of her. I was expecting that Makenna would have to help Wyatt collect some eggs because he is 10-months younger than her, but it was definitely the other way around. After Wyatt had a full basket of his own, he came over and helped Makenna collect some more for her basket. What a nice cousin!!

Grandma and Papa’s House
After a nap, we headed over to grandma and papa’s house for an early dinner with my family. We had a great lamb dinner with strawberry shortcake for dessert. Makenna had fun playing with the Quince dolls that my mom had saved from our toy collection when we were little. She also loved having all different adults take her out to the patio to go swinging. And Makenna got another Easter basket with her ULTIMATE favorite Easter toy: “The Pooping Chicken”. Can everyone say, “Thanks grandma!” Hehe…Makenna was fascinated with this wind-up toy that you put jelly beans into, wind it up, and then it lays eggs (aka ”poops”). This was by far her favorite thing of the day and when asked what she got for Easter she proudly says “A pooping chicken”. Yeah, great, I can’t wait for all of the kids at play group to hear about this:-)

Such a fun day! I hope everyone else had a great Easter too!
